Your friend’s address. A family holiday as a child. The name of that lady you see at work every day. Memory is our ability to recall information from the recent or distant past. But can what we eat affect how well it works?
Kimberley Wilson, a psychologist with a master's degree in nutrition, looks at the food and drink that can have a surprisingly positive effect on improving our memory, and those that can do it harm.

I strive to consume berries, green tea and dark chocolate daily. Another good one is beetroots, as they are also fantastic for arterial health.

I feel bad for kids growing up on processed foods. It can affect their future forever. I was one of them. I'm shocked that processed foods can decrease appetite control. Makes sense actually

This research supports what I already suspected. It is a call to action for all of us to improve our diet. Thank You

Lovely writing! Informative!

Whilst this info is generally good, there’s a few claims here that need more backing up. For instance in the last study where they changed individuals on a healthy diet to a more unhealthy one, how do we know that the cognitive effects are not caused by the actual change in diet, rather than the food itself? I think it’s a little bit scaremongering to tell people that if they have a few high calorie breakfasts and two takeaways in a week, they will have decreased brain function to a significant sense

@Djip Minderman It’s good to try and improve your diet but having a few takeaways a month isn’t going to significantly change your health outcomes. It’s all about balance

Surely that's worth it if that leads to said people changing to a healthier diet? I know I, for one, am more likely to only start actually doing something about anything when I'm pushed into doing so.

OK we’re getting somewhere. I have some follow up questions for you. 1) can we be sure those “improved memory scores” were the result of eating fruit or the result of not being malnourished? 2) can you cite actual studies or just say that “studies show” because you’re reading a script? My Grandmother ate what the government recommended and still got Alzheimer’s even though she worked everyday, even though she was really smart she even forgot me, one of her closest grandkids. She had no idea who I was. She wasn’t a smoker or drinker so you can’t blame that and she wasn’t lazy So lifestyle is completely eliminated from causation. Maybe the grains and sugar whether refined or carbohydrates are to blame? Some have speculated that Alzheimer’s is caused by oxidation in our brains and not cooking in aluminum, copper or iron cookware would’ve prevented this, would it have? They claim stainless steel would’ve prevented it but you have a proven source of dangerous chromium in stainless steel, so no it’s no better. So cook on glass only? Well it’s a thought but glass can be troublesome too from certain heavy metals used to give glass its colors.

I don't need an excuse to consume chocolate. Even if it didn't improve my memory, I would still gorge myself on it.

My problem is I remember too much, recent and past. I think it's due to chocolate donuts every morning.

Needing fish is misdirection. You need Omega 3 and this is ALA, DHA and EPA. Most studies show ALA which can be turned too DHA and EPA by the body. Fish these days is actually bad for you. It’s often farmed and high in saturated fats and pharmaceutical products, pesticides and other agricultural run off like fertilisers, animal waste from both ends and is predominately fed on soya or other GMO or high chemical feeds, often grown in deforested areas like the Amazon. Fish from the ocean contains all the above and large amounts of metals and plastics. A plant based diet of whole foods avoids all of this. That’s why Vegans are more intelligent, live healthier and longer lives.
